About Us

Hiking in Sunset

We know the pain of losing of a loved one in the mountains. We know the struggle of overcoming life-threatening injuries. We know the darkness that can come when navigating this type of trauma. And we know the profound ripples these events can have on families and communities.

It is through our experiences that we aim to support people affected by traumatic experiences in the wilderness. We know that as a community, we have the ability to provide strength and support to help each other heal.

Vision:

To improve the health and well-being of our communities by ensuring all people who have been affected by traumatic events in the wilderness have access to support and educational resources.

Mission:

To provide information and opportunities for support to individuals who have been affected by traumatic events in the wilderness.

Values:
  • We believe that support and social connection are key in the healing process after trauma in the mountains.

  • We strive to provide current, evidence-based information so people can make informed choices about their health and well-being.

  • We are committed to reducing the stigma associated with accidents in the mountains by engaging with the public to shift the conversation regarding these types of events.

  •  We aspire that all people should have the ability to seek support through counselling and that cost and access should not be barriers.

  • We honour each individual's own process of grief or loss following trauma in the mountains.

  • We acknowledge that accidents in the mountains can affect groups, families, and communities, not only individuals.

  • We believe that care should be taken by healthcare providers, first responders, and community members to decrease the risk of re-traumatization.

  • We recognize that safety and prevention are important but realize that accidents happen, and support needs to be available when it does.

  • We imagine vibrant, healthy, caring communities who support people after tragedy in the mountains.
